Jessica Pritchard Moderator of PBA Program on Custody Issues Involving Special Needs Children

Partner and Family Law attorney Jessica A. Pritchard of Antheil Maslow & MacMinn, LLP (AMM Law) served as Moderator at a program on custody issues involving children with special needs at the Pennsylvania Bar Association Family Law Section Summer meeting, July 10 – 13 in Washington DC. This topic is of particular interest to Ms. Pritchard, who is herself the mother of a special needs child. The CLE entitled “What to Expect from the Unexpected: Navigating the Complexities of Custody Matters with Special Needs Children” focused on custody cases related to children with special needs, which involve unique challenges and consideration. The panel, with its diverse background and experience, provided a multifaceted approach to these complicated cases. Discussion included how the courts evaluate these cases, how to use expert testimony effectively, the role of supportive providers to the child, how to navigate custody schedules, and important considerations when making medical and educational decisions. The program also covered the financial implications of decisions related to special needs children, co-parenting strategies and tools, and the role of ADR in resolving disputes. Jessica Pritchard, moderator, was joined by Honorable Sabrina Korbel, Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas; Aaron Weems, Esquire, and Rachel W. Schwartz, Ph.D.
