JUDGE JAMES KNOLL GARDNER OF THE UNITED STATES DISTRICT
COURT, EASTERN DISTRICT OF PENNSYLVANIA TAKES SENIOR STATUS
Allentown, PA, March 30, 2017 – Judge James Knoll Gardner of the United States District Court, Eastern District of Pennsylvania announced that he will take senior status effective April 3, 2017. Judge Gardner has served on the court since 2002. Judge Gardner was nominated by President George W. Bush and confirmed by the United States Senate on October 2, 2002. Prior to his taking the seat in the District Court, Judge Gardner was a judge on the Court of Common Pleas of Lehigh County from 1981 to 2002, serving as President Judge from 1997 to 2001.
Judge Gardner will continue to serve on the District Court from his chambers and courtroom in the Edward N. Cahn U.S. Courthouse and Federal Building in Allentown.
The United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania is one of the original 13 federal judiciary districts created by the Judiciary Act of 1789. It originally sat in Independence Hall in Philadelphia as the United States District Court for the District of Pennsylvania and is now located at the James Byrne Courthouse at 601 Market Street in Philadelphia with additional locations in Allentown, Reading and Easton. The Court’s jurisdiction includes Berks, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Lancaster, Lehigh, Montgomery, and Northampton counties as well as Philadelphia. The district is part of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.
